LATIN
AMERICAN FILM SERIES |
|
|
|
|

The New Commercial Cinema
International circuits have been flooded recently
by a series of award-winning films from the region.
While these films are, in many cases, of excellent
make, they are not representative in all cases of
the movies being watched by Latin American moviegoers.
In these installment of the film series, we want
to show four movies that had notable box office
successes in their countries of origin and in the
region at large, but that have largely lacked proper
distribution in the U.S. We explore genres such
as the road movie (Guantanamera), the romeo-and-juliet
love story (Amar te duele), the thriller
(Secuestro
Exprés) and the romantic comedy (O
homem que copiava).
