| Of French origin,
Elena Poniatowska has lived in Mexico most
of her life and is considered one of the most
prolific and well-known Latin American writers.
She is best known for La noche de Tlatelolco
(1971), published in English as Massacre in
Mexico, in which she narrates the events following
the massacre that took place in Mexico City
in 1968. Other titles by Poniatowska are Hasta
no verte Jesús mío (novel, 1969),
Fuerte es el silencio (historic account, 1980),
and Nada, nadie, las voces del temblor (testimonial
narrative, 1988), among many others. She has
received numerous awards for her creative
writing, such as the Premio Xavier Villaurrutia,
Premio Nacional de Periodismo, Premio Alfaguara
de Novela, Premio Legion de Honor del Gobierno
de Francia, etc. |

| AMY KAMINSKY |
|

|
| Professor of Women’s
Studies and Global Studies at the University
of Minnesota. She is the editor of Water Lilies
(bilingual anthology of Spanish women writers,
1996) and the author of Reading the Body Politic:
Latin American Women Writers and Feminist
(1993), Criticism, and After Exile: Writing
the Latin American Diaspora (1999). Her most
recent book is a study of Argentina in the
global imaginary. |

| Chilean writer,
author of many novels such as Desnudo en el
tejado (1969), Soñé que la nieve
ardía (1975), La insurrección
(1982), El cartero de Neruda (1985, adapted
to film under the title of Il postino), Matchball
(1989), La chica del trombón (2001),
and El baile de la victoria (2003). Since
2000 Antonio Skárameta has been Chilean
Ambassador in Berlin. |

| Literary critic,
fiction writer and poet, author of Mean Woman,
All Night Movie, and Dream of the Abandoned
Seducer, La pareja desmontable, Madres alquiladas,
Las ciudades perdidas van al paraíso,
Golpes bajos, etc. Professor Borinsky has
received the Latino Literary Prize for her
fiction in 1996, and is the Director of the
Writing in the Americas Program at Boston
University. |

| DIAMELA ELTIT |

| Considered one
of the most original postmodern writers, Eltit’s
novels break traditional narrative patterns
by introducing marginal characters, sordid
atmospheres, and the exaltation of the human
body, particularly women’s. Diamela
Eltit is also a performance artist and teaches
literature at the Universidad Tecnológica
Metropolitana, in Santiago, Chile. Some of
her novels are: Lumpérica (1983), El
cuarto mundo (1988), El padre mío (1989),
Vaca Sagrada (1990), Los vigilantes (1994),
Los trabajadores de la muerte (1998). |
